Signs of Anxiety in children’s behaviour
Anger –
This can be a result of fear. Investigate if there is fear behind repeated angry episodes and work on the fear rather than the anger.
Problems sleeping –
create a good bedtime routine that promotes calm and safety
Defiance –
work on your communication. It is often the case that defiance stems from not knowing and fearing it.
Negativity –
can also be a sign of anxiety and possible attempt at avoidance. Is this a regular behaviour or pattern? If it is you may want to seek professional help.
Lack of focus –
Is this a regular problem? If so (as with negativity) you may want to seek professional help
Over planning –
this can be an attempt to feel in control. Gentle work to lessen the dependence.
“Beneath every behaviour is a feeling. Beneath each feeling is a need. When we meet that need rather than focusing on the behaviours, we begin to deal with the cause not the symptom.”
